Acts 3

"Men of Israel, why does this surprise you? Why do you stare at us as if by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk?" (Acts 3:12)
I read this verse and was reminded of something I read once. The full title of Acts is, The Acts of the Apostles. But someone has written that it should more appropriately be titled, The Acts of the Holy Spirit. That is exactly what Peter is trying to get accross to us in this verse. He has regained his confidence. He has gone out and healed a crippled man. But when people are astonished at what he is doing, he is quick to point out that this healing is not an act of Peter, it is an act of God.
There is a promise here (or maybe a challenge). The Spirit can still do amazing things among the people of God, if we trust and try not to take the credit. In fact, with the power of the Holy Spirit, we can do more amazing things than what Christ did while he was here.
Don't believe me? Here is what Jesus says about it: "Anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father." (John 14:12) The Spirit is among us, his power is amazing, and we are the intended recipients of that awesomeness!
